Greetings,
It is both a great, an overwhelming, honor to have the privilege of being introduced to a game with as rich and as living a storyline found in any great fantasy. L5R truly inspires great writing by virtue of maintaining challenges to the player base so it can bring out the best in us all and how everyone, both new and veterans alike, can impact in their own unique way.
My name is Daniel, 23, I'm from the UK, and have recently glimpsed the world of Rokugan in hopes it can enlighten my writing skills as much as possible. Though the card game is equally acknowledged my main pursuits will be the RPG itself.
I have yet to pick up any Editions of the rulebook (since the 4th Edition is soon to arrive so will get this manual on release) though I have been made aware of the 3rd Edition partially and have even filled out a character sheet to the best of my knowledge which, naturally, is amongst the Dragon Clan. My hopes in response to this thread is for someone esteemed in their knowledge, and is kind enough to accept my humble beginnings, so I may be led down the right path and take the founding steps on a long journey to Enlightenment.
My sister is also involved in pursuing this game though currently is attending to matters which require her strict attention.
If it is no trouble please send a reply, here or privately (for e-mail or Instant Messages), regarding how we may learn more of the game. I will be continuing to learn where and what I can but do need some assistance to make sure everything is correct and can participate amongst the existing members ultimately to further express the best of our abilities.
Thank you so much for allowing me to sign up and hope everything is clear so far. Wish you all the best in your stories and maybe we'll see our characters there!

Welcome to the Mountains! I'd love to give whatever help I'm able in getting you acclimated to your new "home," both CCG-wise and RPG-wise (I'm more of an RPG person myself, too, but I've been trying to get active in the card game recently as well).

Welcome to the mountains. Good to see more Dragon's from the UK.
Where in the UK are you based? There are a few big groups located in different areas, mostly CCG players, but the stores are usually good for getting some info on the RPG and maybe joining some groups.

Welcome to the mountains, Brother!
Since it's the RPG you're interested in, I'd say for now to read through the 3rd edition rules. They are subtle and please realize that they are not as mechanically elegant as some other games. I think part of the reason is that L5R is meant to to a true RPG where character developement and interacting withing the story is just as important as fighting and rolling dice. My suggestion is to start with a Mirumoto character. My reasoning is the Mirumoto Bushi has a good school skill and is forgiving in combat because of TN bonuses. Realize when you start that L5R characters are fragile in combat and getting hit once can be the end of a guy, especially if out numbered.
If you have a group, one of the best things to do is establish ground rules like when making a character you have to have at least one non-combat skill as high as your highest combat skill. Make sure everyone understands that you can just go slicing and dicing because if your Mirumoto kills some Crane without any true justification then you might be starting a blood fued. Buy a cool Disad or two. I think Disadvantages make a character. Having a Sworn Enemy can be really cool if yur GM is good, having him be a Nemesis is sometimes epic. Then the GM can create your own personal Dr. Doom (if you're into comic books).
It's nice to meet you.

Welcome! Your best bet is to find a friend willing to GM (or take up that task yourself), a few other friends willing to give the game a shot, and whip up some characters! a few tips: go with the advantages and disadvantages that sound like fun to you. your character's stats will flesh themselves out as you play.

Thank you everyone!
My character is now set to be played and should appeal to the GMs throughout L5R! Understandably he is based around the 3rd Edition rules so hopefully 4th Edition will not introduce major changes! So much dedication to get him absolutely pristine in expressing a storyline!
I will look around the forums and integrate where I can. Thank you again for allowing me to explore the world of Rokugan in the best way possible.

Greetings once more!
I've returned to ask if the "Legend of the Five Rings 4th Edition RPG" book is available. I believe it is, Amazon has one in stock for around £53 and wonder if there are anyone nearby. I live in the Dorset, UK area.
I'd like to see how translatable my character is from 3rd Edition to 4th. I've still yet to play and am eager to find an online storyline I can participate in. If someone could help it would be most grateful.
Thank you for reading!

The RPG book should be available now. As for what exactly is in it and how translatable characters are, I couldn't say. I should be able to look at one this Saturday.

Thank you kindly Togashi~sama I've got the 4th Edition Book too. I'm still getting to grips with the burdens a GM faces and a few changes are notable such as the new Stances and of course the land of Rokugan shaping post-Tournament. Once some headway is made I'll report. Until then!
