L5R CCG/Honor at GenCon 2010

Tournament Schedule

Check out the Events Calendar for all the RPG and CCG events that will occur during GenCon 2010, a celebration of 15 years of L5R. The events and contests listed below are only the ones with MegaGame implication, but there are a lot more events AEG is running during those 4 days.

Storyline Tournament Breakdown

Below is a list of the Storyline Tournaments that will happen at GenCon, and their impact on the 2010 MegaGame, The Empire’s Glory. Specific Story Prizes will be linked as they are unveiled. As is the case for all the MegaGame Tournaments, each time a Spider is in a position to donate to the Empire, he can donate to Jigoku instead.

•Winner’s Choice (Aug 6th)
Top 4 players will gain 2 Glory points each for their Clans (no donation option) and will, in placing order, get a chance to pick an available Trait from the Winner’s Choice list.

•Second Chance Tournament (Aug 7th and 8th): The Final Plague
This event will be open to all the players that didn’t qualify for the Main Event either through the various qualifiers at GenCon or thanks to automatic seeds from previous achievements.

- Winner will gain 8 Glory points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 2nd Place will gain 4 Glory points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 3rd and 4th Place will each gain 2 Glory points they can only keep for their Clans.

•GenCon 2010 Main Event (Aug 7th and 8th): Wrath of the God-Beast
This event will be open to all the players that qualified through the various qualifiers at GenCon or earned an automatic seed from previous achievements.

- Winner will gain 16 Glory points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 2nd Place will gain 8 Glory points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 3rd and 4th Place will gain 4 Glory points each they can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 5th to 8th Place will each gain 2 Glory points they can only keep for their respective Clan.
- Finally, 9th to 16th Place will each gain 1 Glory point they can only keep for their Clans.

Honor Events Breakdown

Below is a list of the Honor Events that will happen at GenCon, and their impact on the 2010 MegaGame, The Empire’s Glory. Times for each contest will be mentioned as they are finalized. As is the case for all the MegaGame Honor Events, each time a Spider is in a position to donate to the Empire, he can donate to Jigoku instead.

•Costume Contest (Aug 8th)
Dress to impress during the official GenCon 2010 Costume Contest! A panel of judges will decide what the best L5R costume for GenCon is. The colors and mons you wear will determine which Clan you are representing. Every player with non-identified colors will be considered Ronin and thus will automatically give any Honor points he earns to the Empire.

- Winner will gain 8 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 2nd Place will gain 4 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 3rd and 4th Place will each gain 2 Honor points they can only keep for their Clans

•Theme Deck Competition (Aug 7th and 8th)
Any player that enters either the Main Event or the Second Chance Tournament can enter the Theme Deck competition by submitting a decklist and a presentation of his Theme at the judging table. The Stronghold he’s playing determines which Clan he’s representing. Results of the Theme Deck competition will be given on Sunday, August 8th.

- Winner will gain 8 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 2nd Place will gain 4 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 3rd and 4th Place will each gain 2 Honor points they can only keep for their Clans.

•Clan T-Shirt Contest (Aug 7th)
Between 3 and 4 PM on Saturday Aug 7th, AEG will be conducting a Clan T-Shirt count in both the CCG Hall and the RPG Room. This is a Clan contest, not an individual contest.

- Winning Clan will gain 4 Honor points it can keep, or donate to the Empire (by vote at GenCon)
- 2nd Clan will gain 2 Honor points it can only keep.
- 3rd and 4th Place Clan will gain 1 Honor point each they can only keep.

•GenCon Special Event (Aug 7th): TBA
AEG will be hosting an unprecedented Honor Event on Saturday Aug 7th after the rounds of both the Main Event and the Second Chance Tournament. This Event will be detailed in a specific announcement next week.

- Winner will gain 8 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 2nd Place will gain 4 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 3rd and 4th Place will each gain 2 Honor points they can keep, or donate to the Empire.

Holy 72 Glory points, Batman!

Let´s see now how many points AEG handle at Worlds. I could be shy then of my bet of 100 Glory points between both.

GenCon 2010 – Exclusive Honor EventFor the first time at GenCon, players from all Clans will get a chance to compete in a live performance contest!
On Aug 7th, After the Main and Second Chance Tournaments’ Swiss rounds are completed, AEG will offer the Clans and their representatives at GenCon the chance to match their skills through a Live Performance Contest.

One representative of each Clan will be asked to step up on the stage, and will have 3 minutes maximum to answer the following question before judges and the audience: “how would your Clan stop the Plague?“.

This contest will be filmed by the L5RChives crew on site and a live feed should be put in place for players all around the world to witness this event.

There is no limit to the amount of accessories, costumes and assistants a representative can have on stage, and the type of performance itself is up to each Clan (it doesn’t have to be a formal discourse).
If you can’t attend GenCon, you can help with any accessories or with the text of the performance, for instance, and be a part of this event.

Performances will be judged on site, according to originality, respect of the Clan values, entertainment value and overall quality.
Players will have 5 Minutes to discuss between themselves, in Clan Councils, what they will do with the Honor points they might receive.

The jury will use this time to decide on a top 4, and will award the following points:

- Winning Clan will gain 8 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 2nd Place will gain 4 Honor points he can keep, or donate to the Empire.
- 3rd and 4th Place will each gain 2 Honor points they can keep, or donate to the Empire.

Exact time and location of this special event will be announced as soon as all details are available, but enough time will be given to change into costumes and gather accessories after the rounds are over.

United the Empire will prevail. Divided it will crumble.

I... actually have an idea. It's so simple and inelegant that it might be taken as a joke, but at the same time, that just might be the key to winning this, if we are going to be presenting the "Dragon" answer.

Otherwise, my second idea involves a Tamori. I mean, it makes sense that the Dragon answer to the Plague would be discovered/invented by the Tamori.

Yeah, I have no idea what will or will not work for this presentation.

Well maybe the first thing decided should be how to give our answer. Would a Dragon be more likely to inform with a storyteller, actors in a play, Art (with narration), a conversation between a sensei and their pupil, or etc.

I suggest a small play with people in costumes, defeating the God-beast! Cheesy

It's pretty short notice for that sort of thing. One could potentially write a short play, but the costumes don't seem too workable.

We'd appreciate if you could tell us how many people are going to be on stage for your clan, and who the rep will be before next monday. Please send that info to megagameresults@alderac.com
